BANDUNG: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong are scheduled to discuss signing a extradition treaty when they meet at the ASEAN summit in Cebu, the Philippines.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda said here Tuesday Yudhoyono and Lee had agreed to the meeting on the sidelines of the APEC summit earlier this month in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The two leaders will attend the summit from Dec. 10-13.

Hassan said the Yudhoyono-Lee meeting would also discuss defense issues connected with the treaty. “A negotiation process is currently underway in Jakarta,” he said.

The idea of a treaty has been discussed by the two countries for years.

The government wants the treaty because many graft suspects and convicts here have fled to the neighboring state with their ill-gotten money. – JP
