Amnesty International Report 2007 was launched today. Here’s what the latest annual report had to say about Singapore.

But this post is about the situation in Sudan’s Darfur region. Its one of the countries covered in AI’s report.

In 1994, 800,000 people (some estimates put it at 1,000,000) were slaughtered in 100 days during the genocide in Rwanda. The world stood by, just watched and did nothing.

Since 2003, its been Darfur in Sudan. Is this going to be another “world stood by, just watched and did nothing”… *shaking my head in disgust & sadness*

Irene Khan, Secretary-General of Amnesty International, has called the situation in Darfur a “bleeding wound on the world’s conscience“.

I came to know about this interactive guide by the Council on Foreign Relations, that explains the crisis in Darfur, through We Blog For Darfur. (Click the image to go to the blog)

Blogs and websites like these are keeping the story alive while the mainstream media, for a number of reasons, slow down or stop reporting about it.
